Oakman Inns are delighted by the news that the government have decided to scrap the Settled Status fee

Oakman Inns are delighted by the news that the government have decided to scrap the Settled Status fee for EU citizens were expected to pay when applying to continue living in the UK after Brexit. This morning, our CEO Peter Borg-Neal was on Radio 4’s Today Programme discussing the issue of the Settled Status fee as well as the process required of EU citizens to ‘apply’ rather than ‘register’ to remain in the UK in their jobs and homes, something which goes against what was promised before the referendum.

In response to the news Peter has said:

“Whilst this decision doesn’t deal with the need to ‘apply’ rather than ‘register’ it is at least a welcome first display of goodwill to EU Nationals who are making such a huge contribution to the UK. Our campaign was not actually inspired by the desire to scrap the fees but to show solidarity with all our European friends who are such an important part of the Oakman family. Hopefully, it is a sign that the Government has got its head up out of the trenches and will start to move things forward in a much more positive manner.”
